photo 28 - Helta Skelta
This helter-skelter is situated in Greenwich, London, England. This traditional funfair attraction is operated by George Irvin. He saved and designed the 70-ft high fairground slide as a lighthouse. Using the original design and materials, George completely refurbished the Helter Skelter. His research found that the attraction was utilised for the coronation party of Queen Elizabeth II in Manchester in 1953 and stood in Blackpool in the late 1950s. As early as the 1960s, the Skegness Fair was held every summer and it toured fairgrounds all year; in the 1970s, it appeared at street fairs in the north of England.
Afterward, in about 1984, the owner put it in storage and occasionally renovated it.
In order to get an authentic antique, George ensured the renovations were done with original materials and that the 1906 Helter Skelters pattern was remade.
